The city of Dallas is the 9th largest city in the nation and the 2nd largest in the state of Texas with a population of nearly 1.3 Million people. It is the centerpoint of a metro region that includes Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington and the surrounding suburbs. Together this metro region is home to some 6 million people which makes it the 4th largest metro area in the nation. The city was founded in 1841 and incorporated 15 years later and is renowned for its role in the oil industry, banking, telecommunications, transportation, and computer technology. The historical establishment and importance of Dallas is as a center for the oil and cotton industries as well as its position among numerous railroad lines.
